Treadle Sewing Machine-Restored at Last

Isn’t she a beauty?  This Singer Treadle Sewing Machine belonged to my Grandmother.  I never knew she did much quilting.  In 1980 when I showed her my first quilt (in my gallery) she said, “I am so proud that I have a grand-daughter who can make such pretty things.  Not like the stuff Hat and I used to make.”

You see, I am the only grand-daughter on the Wood side of the family among 6 Grandsons!  What I learned along the way, was that Aunt Hat (my great aunt) and “Meme” pieced more tops than they finished quilts.  I remember always seeing this sewing machine open in Meme’s bedroom.  I loved it but was not allowed to touch it.

When Meme passed away, I inherited this sewing machine.  The unrestored treadle sewing machine moved with my family and me all over the place.

Finally, just this fall, I had it restored.  I left it open so we could enjoy it during the holidays.  And I am delighted that it is in perfect working order.  Yes, I plan to use this machine, but first I have to learn to sew on it.

I think I will name her “VERA” in honor of my Grandmother.  She would be so proud!
