Broderie Perse
On January 4, 2025, I took the last applique stitch to complete my large Broderie Perse quilt top. (It does not have a name yet). What a monumental moment! According to my quilt journal, I started that quilt in 2013. In various and sundry pieces, that quilt has traveled with me many miles and has seen me through many life adventures.
Broderie Perse had always been on my quilting Bucket List. I finally took my first Broderie Perse Workshop from Judy Severson at the Applique Academy in 2011. During the three-day workshop, Judy guided us every step of the way to create our own Broderie Perse project. (Find the story of that project, “Blossoms and Butterflies” in my Gallery.)
I returned to Judy’s class several times through the years that followed in order to get her input and guidance. When I finally got to the large outside borders, it was a delight to have the long tables in the class room to measure and cut the fabric accurately. I was so afraid to mis-cut!!
If you take a peek into my quilt journal, you would find I set several deadlines for this 93” x 93” quilt. But as we all know, sometimes life gets in the way…
However, bit by bit I am getting there. On February 21, 2025 Lee and I moved our furniture to the side and I sandwiched the quilt on our sunroom floor.
Yes, I plan to hand quilt it myself! At this point, I have started the quilting, very slowly. And yes, I have a deadline in mind so we shall see….
